MCPE is an acronym for Minecraft: Pocket Edition, the mobile variant of the PC game Minecraft. Players also often simply refer to it as PE or Pocket Edition.
Minecraft PE was first released in 2011 on the Experia Play platform, and soon after for devices running the Android and iOS operating systems. MCPE came to Amazon Fire OS and Windows Mobile devices in 2014.
The most recent version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition shares it’s codebase but not it’s name. In 2015 Minecraft Windows 10 Edition Beta. While the latest version doesn’t share it’s name with the other versions, it is a parity-build of MCPE. The naming was changed to reflect gameplay on a wider variety of Windows 10 devices, such as laptop and desktop computers.
